Typical workplace injuries

Workplace injuries are common, with up to three million occurring each year. Although certain occupations have a higher injury rate, all professions suffer from work-related injuries.

Physical jobs, such as construction, have a higher rate of workplace injuries, but office workers aren’t far behind. Less physical jobs, such as teaching or desk work, frequently suffer from overuse injuries, whereas manual workers suffer acute traumas. In reality, acute or overuse injuries can occur in any profession.

If you have suffered a work-related injury, contact Dynamic Balance Physiotherapy & Vestibular Rehab Clinic and let us help you get back on the job and back to life!

Some of the most common workplace injuries are as follows:

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

You may have carpal tunnel syndrome if your hands, wrists, or forearms ache on a daily basis, or if typing or working on the phone has become particularly difficult and uncomfortable for you.

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a medical condition that causes tingling and numbness in your fingers and hand. Typically, the symptoms are felt in the thumb and index fingers, as well as the middle and ring fingers. For some, the condition will worsen, causing hand weakness and people to drop items.

Carpal tunnel syndrome is frequently associated with overuse injuries, particularly among construction and manufacturing workers who must lift, grip, and perform forceful wrist motions.

Sprains / Strains

These two conditions are frequently confused!

Sprains occur when a ligament is stretched or torn, whereas strains occur when a muscle or tendon is stretched or torn. Unexpected tissue overstretching can result in a tear, swelling, pain, and difficulty moving.

A sprain or strain can be caused by a traumatic event, such as twisting your ankle on a step or lifting something awkwardly.

Tendinopathy / Tendinitis

Tendinopathy refers to any problem involving a tendon, such as disease, injury, or disorder.

Tendinitis is an inflammation of the shoulder tendons, which includes the rotator cuff and biceps tendons. Acute injuries, such as minor or partial tearing, can cause the inflammatory response seen in tendonitis.

Tendinosis is a term that describes a dysfunctional tendon but does not usually specify the pathological process. This condition is linked to overuse injuries and degenerative changes that cause micro-tearing and pain. These tendon injuries are not caused by inflammation, and anti-inflammatory medications may cause them to heal more slowly!

Any movement can cause pain or make tendons feel weak when they are injured or inflamed. Repetitive motions can cause tendon disorders, which most commonly affect the wrist/hand, elbow, shoulder, upper back, and neck. Ankle/foot and knee problems are common in people who spend a lot of time on their feet.

If you have tendinopathy, our physiotherapy team will be able to help you!
